There are two kinds of overload: normal overload and accident overload. Normal overload is caused by an increase in electricity consumption under normal power supply. Therefore, overload operation is generally not allowed. Under special circumstances, the dry-type transformer may be overloaded within a short period of time, but shall not exceed 30% of the rated load in winter and 15% of the rated load in summer. In addition, the overload capacity of the dry-type transformer should be determined according to the temperature rise of the dry-type transformer and the manufacturer's regulations. When an accident occurs in the power system or user substation, in order to ensure the continuous power supply to important equipment, dry transformer is allowed to run under excessive load for a short time, that is, the accident overload, which will cause the coil temperature to exceed the allowable value, so the insulation will age faster than the normal condition. However, the chance of accident overload is less, in general dry type transformer is underload operation, so a short period of overload caused damage to the insulation of dry type transformer.
